Right now, there’s not a lot of content available to support the need to purchase a 4K model. That doesn’t mean, however, that the content isn’t coming. You can bet that technology is going to catch up with the TVs that are currently being made to provide the content for them. For instance, Sony is committed to providing Blu-ray movies on UHD while YouTube is working out the bugs on 4K videos. It is also expected that the new PlayStation model will support 4K.

As far as pricing goes, the first 4K TV to hit the market in the United States was introduced by LG and this set sells for $17,000. When Sony launches its 84 inch for 4K this year you’ll have to dig a little deeper since it’s priced to sell at approximately $25,000.
The 1080p vs 4K debate should really be put on hold for a while until there is actually enough content available to make the pricing for a 4K set seem more reasonable. At this time, due to the limited content, the 1080p picture looks absolutely fantastic and pretty much equal to the picture seen on a 4K television.
